Camino de Santiago Accommodation — A Pilgrim's Guesthouse in Galicia
Where you lay your head at the end of each stage can make or break your Camino experience. After twenty-odd kilometres of Galician hill trails, you deserve more than a cramped bunk bed and a 6 a.m. wake-up call. If you are searching for genuine Camino de Santiago accommodationthat feels like a home rather than a hostel, Casa Andaina is waiting for you in Palas de Rei — right on the Camino Francés, just 65 km from Santiago de Compostela.
Types of Accommodation on the Camino Francés
There is no single “right” way to sleep on the Camino. Your choice depends on budget, how much privacy you need, and whether you want to cook your own meals. Here is a quick overview of what you will find along the route.
Public albergues
The cheapest option at €5–12 per night. Shared dormitories with dozens of pilgrims, strict opening hours, and usually no advance booking. Great for budget travellers who enjoy the communal atmosphere, but expect limited privacy, early-morning noise and the risk of finding no beds during peak season.
Private albergues
Typically €15–25 per night with smaller rooms and the option to book ahead. Some include breakfast. Standards vary widely — a few are excellent, while others are barely a step up from the municipal hostels. You still share bathrooms and common areas with other walkers.
Hotels & pensions
A private room with an en-suite bathroom for €40–90 per night. Comfortable and reliable, but Camino-village hotels are scarce and fill up fast from April to October. You get rest, but rarely a kitchen or a place to do laundry — two things pilgrims actually need.
Rural guesthouses
The best balance between comfort and value, especially for groups, families or pilgrims who want a proper rest day. A fully equipped kitchen lets you cook with local produce, a washing machine keeps your pack light, and spacious rooms mean you actually sleep. Book directly with the owner — no platform commissions, no surprises.
The Last Stages: Sarria to Santiago
The final 115 km from Sarria is the most popular stretch of the Camino Francés — the minimum distance to earn the Compostela on foot. These stages wind through the heart of Galicia, past chestnut forests, granite hamlets and green valleys that change colour with every season.
- Sarria → Portomarín (22.2 km) — A steady descent to the Belesar reservoir. Portomarín has arcaded streets and all the services you need.
- Portomarín → Palas de Rei (25 km) — Rolling hills through meadows and tiny Galician villages. You arrive in Palas de Rei, a strategic stopping point with every amenity.
- Palas de Rei — A key waypoint 65 km from Santiago. This is where Casa Andaina sits, directly on the Camino route on Rúa Mercado. No detour needed — you walk straight to our door.
- Palas de Rei → Arzúa (28.5 km) — A long stage through eucalyptus woodland. Many pilgrims split it in two with a stop in Melide, famous for its pulpo (octopus).
- Arzúa → O Pedrouzo (19.3 km) — A gentler day that lets you recharge before the final push.
- O Pedrouzo → Santiago de Compostela (19.4 km) — The grand finale. Arrive at the Cathedral, collect your Compostela, and savour the moment.
Casa Andaina in Palas de Rei
Palas de Rei occupies a sweet spot on the Camino Francés. It is far enough from Sarria that the initial crowds have thinned out, yet close enough to Santiago that only three comfortable stages remain. The town has everything a pilgrim could want: supermarkets, pharmacies, cash machines and a handful of good restaurants.
Casa Andainais a six-bedroom rural guesthouse that sleeps up to ten people, located directly on the Camino route on Rúa Mercado. You do not need to leave the trail — as you walk through the centre of Palas de Rei, you are already at our front door.
The house can be rented in full or as two independent three-bedroom apartments (up to five guests each). It works equally well for a group of pilgrim friends, a family using Palas de Rei as a base to explore inland Galicia, or a couple who simply wants space and quiet after days on the trail. Every room has central heating, fibre-optic WiFi, bed linen and towels included.
Best of all, when you book directly with us you are guaranteed the lowest price — no commissions to Booking or Airbnb, and confirmation within 24 hours.
