The Last 5 Stages of the Camino Francés
The stages from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela are the most popular on the Camino. They cover the minimum 100 km required to obtain the Compostela certificate and see the highest concentration of pilgrims.
Stage 1: Sarria – Portomarín (22 km)
The starting stage for thousands of pilgrims. Sarria has good train connections from Madrid and Barcelona.
Stage 2: Portomarín – Palas de Rei (25 km)
Transition stage through inland Galicia. Rolling landscapes and small villages.

Stage 3: Palas de Rei – Arzúa (29 km)
The longest of the five stages. Passes through Melide (octopus capital) and arrives in Arzúa (cheese capital). The most physically demanding.
Stage 4: Arzúa – O Pedrouzo (19 km)
A short, relatively flat stage. Perfect for recovering before the big day.
Stage 5: O Pedrouzo – Santiago de Compostela (20 km)
The final stage. The last kilometres through Monte do Gozo, where pilgrims first glimpse the Cathedral towers. Arriving at the Plaza del Obradoiro is an unforgettable moment.
